Tapestry in Atlanta with the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild

I taught my last in-person workshop with the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild just outside of Atlanta in Dunwoody last month. It was a 3-day workshop with a presentation the evening before so with travel days I was there 5 days/nights in all. Special thanks to ALL who attended, Eric (workshop chair) for arranging everything and Katie (my hostess) for sharing her beautiful home and life with me. ♥️

As the workshop progressed, I neglected (as usual) to get many images.* However, on the last day I went around the room and snapped some last minute photos as we were winding down. Nearly everyone is represented here I think. I loved seeing so much exploration. It may be hard to tell from just these small images; we covered a LOT of technique: Single Soumak in a number of variations, Vertical, Diagonal, Double, and French Knots over the course of the workshop.

I usually write to the class a couple of weeks after to see if they have any images they could send to me. I got these from Bonny, Erin, and Susan.

Susan G. sent me some images showing how she is incorporating some of the techniques from the workshop into her latest tapestry.

I want to also mention her loom. There were several using this loom in the class. It’s called a Hummingbird Loom; I did a separate blog post on it here.

On the last evening Katie and I had the opportunity (and oddly enough, energy!) to take a Magical walk through her neighborhood. I call it magical becuase we kept seeing these beautiful little flowers on the streets and in the grasses with no indication of where they were coming from. At first, we thought maybe someone had scattered them- a bouquet perhaps. But that didn’t really make sense so we did some research! I looked up the flower on my iNaturalist app and found out it was from a Tulip Tree. We confirmed it minutes later when Katie found a flower still attached to the leaves. It was such a nice way to end this special visit.

*I always like to get to know everyone better by seeing their work. In the show and tell I did get some photos, but since I can’t be sure I represent everyone fairly, I decided not to post them. I’ll just say it’s a very talented group and I felt honored for the opportunity to spend time with them all!
