A Walk in the Woods
I read a blog post recently about Writing About Your Work and decided to try it here. I’ve done a couple of recent weavings that have left me pondering where they came from, how they evolved from an original notion or sketch to the end result.
My most recent tapestry I titled “Winter Walk” because it came from a walk in the woods.
The original photo was actually taken in the fall- leaves and moss (above) - a spot along one of the trails I walk each morning. So how did it get to that image on the right?
Pretty far out there when I think about it. But here are the drawings that evolved over time. I don’t remember having any kind of conscious thought or guidance.
The progression from a path to a path surrounded by bars.
Somewhere along the line I lost my way. Or maybe I never really started on that path.
Because next thing I know I’ve got all these dark bars moving upward and no clue what to do next.
So I went back to my journal and drew out a lot of boxes, filled some in…This is what I do.
And I just kept going until I was done.
Winter Walk, 32” tall by 23.75” wide
I’m still trying to figure it out. 😊
