I’ve mentioned before that I started weaving tapestries in the mid to late 70’s in art school. And that somewhere around the late 80’s I abandoned it to pursue an all-encompassing career in knitwear design. Fast forward to December 28, 2017 when I re-connected with my dear college room mate, Carol Ward. Carol and I were both textile majors and I wasn’t surprised to hear she had never stopped weaving tapestries. In our conversations, I realized how much I missed tapestry weaving and wanted to get started again.
She sent me photos of some of her simple frame looms and my husband offered to make me one. Within a couple of weeks, I was weaving again.
And then she told me about Mirrix looms…

My first Mirrix was Zeus, their largest one. It was a birthday gift to myself a few months later. Zeus was soon followed by Lani, Little Guy, then Zach.
We can never have too many looms.
I truly believe that and keep most of mine warped most of the time.

So what do I love about Mirrix?
A lot. I love that they are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to have around.
I love the fact that I can tension the warp.
I love that there are so many add-ons to suit ones needs or preferences.
I love the customer service.
I love the video support.
I love that they have a very active facebook group(s) full of creative peeps.
I love that they are also very present in their facebook group(s).
I love that their looms are available in a range of sizes.
And I love that they are constantly evolving and improving on their products.
Which brings me to their newest addition, the Saffron loom.

I have some smaller frame looms from various companies that I (used to) like to travel with. They’re also my go-to when I’m too exhausted to work on other tapestries but just want to weave in the evening. So when the Saffron came along this spring, it was a complete game-changer!
What a beautifully simple design. The big buzz with the Saffron is it has a tensioning device. A small and simple loom with a tensioning device! What’s not to love about Mirrix?
I missed the beginning days of Mirrix.
I have a feeling I might have returned to tapestry much sooner if I hadn’t. Thank you, Mirrix Looms, for all you have done and continue to do to make tapestry weaving easier for all of us!
